What we do at the bike shop.

  • Donate a bike

Do you have a bike that is no longer useful to you? Perhaps you have replaced it, a family member has grown out of it, or it just requires too much TLC and you would like to donate it to a useful cause. If so, please click ‘Donate a Bike’ below to find out more about the process before completing our online form. This will help us find your bike a new home. Look at our shop FAQ page to find out more about donations.

  • Recycling

We are always very touched by the generosity of the people of Faringdon and the surrounding community. Each bike we receive is carefully assessed by one of our volunteer mechanics. We do our best to recycle as many bike parts as we can from other bikes to restore each one to an almost new condition. Bikes and parts that can’t be restored are carefully broken down and recycled.

  • Own a Pre-loved bike

Once our bikes have been restored and cleaned, we price them and place them in our shop in Faringdon town centre for visitors to come and try for themselves and as gifts. We always take the time to discuss the most suitable bike given each person’s needs may be different.

The right bike.

As we only source bikes through the kind donations from our community, we have a wide variety to choose from which is changing all the time. We have racing bikes, mountain bikes, vintage bikes, hand-built bikes, pop-to-the-shop bikes, children’s bikes, and balance bikes of all shapes and sizes.

We are also able to supply helmets, lights, pumps, repair kits, inner tubes, propstands, mudguards and baskets. If we don’t have what you want, we have a range of suppliers to source pretty much anything.

Recycling.

The Farcycles team is driven by enabling all things to do with cycling. This starts with ensuring everyone has access to a suitable bike. We receive bikes from in all sorts of backgrounds. From living, unused, in dusty sheds and garages, outside in all weathers for many years, much loved family bikes passed down the generations and even people upgrading to e-bikes.

Each bike is precious and is awaiting a new home. We work hard to recycle as much of the bike as we can ensuring that all significant safety components are thoroughly checked, or replaced if necessary.

Scrap bikes and parts are carefully divided up, with as much as possible, being recycled onto other bikes or to recycling centres for metals and rubber.

Our volunteers.

We are fortunate to have a very friendly and supportive community in Faringdon. The shop benefits from more than 20 loyal volunteers who help us in a variety of ways from bike repairs, manning the shop, decorating, bike collection and delivery and home mechanics.

We are always in need of enthusiastic people who care about their community, the environment, mental and physical well-being and sustainable transport. You might just want to give something back with some volunteer time.

You don’t need to be an avid cyclist to join Farcycles. We have all sorts of activities that might appeal, either involving being in the shop, taking bikes apart, searching online for more bikes, running social media campaigns or even administration. If you are interested, we’d love to talk to you.

A bike for everyone.
